HBT - All about: Ghosts

Today's the launch date for my first-ever HAUNTED BLOG TOUR! I've been so excited to start it, and have the entire month planned out with each post I'll be doing.

So for today, to welcome the month of Halloween, I'll be dedicating the post to
ghosts! Let's all rattle our chains for Casper's little friends... (okay bad joke, I know. :P)

From dictionary.com:
Ghost:
(–noun)
1. the soul of a dead person, a disembodied spirit imagined, usually as a vague, shadowy or evanescent form, as wandering among or haunting living persons.
2. a mere shadow or semblance; a trace.
3. a spiritual being.
4. the principle of life; soul; spirit.

From wikipedia.com:

Often described as immaterial and partly transparent, ghosts are reported to haunt particular locations or people that they were associated with in life or at time of death. Phantom armies, ghost animals, ghost trains and phantom ships have also been reported. Ghosts or similar paranormal entities appear in film, theater, literature, myths, legends, and some religions.

In many traditional accounts, ghosts were often thought to be deceased people looking for vengeance, or imprisoned on earth for bad things they did during life. The appearance of a ghost has often been regarded as an omen or portent of death. Seeing one's own ghostly double or "fetch" is a related omen of death.

White Ladies were reported to appear in many rural areas, and supposed to have died tragically or suffered trauma in life. White Lady legends are found around the world. Common to many of them is the theme of losing or being betrayed by a husband or fiancé. They are often associated with an individual family line, as a harbinger of death. When one of these ghosts is seen it indicates that someone in the family is going to die, similar to a banshee. Legends of ghost ships have existed since the 18th century; most notable of these is the Flying Dutchman.

Now, me personally? I don't believe in ghosts. But I do LOVE a good ghost story, don't get me wrong! I love hearing about strange sightings or creepy feelings from people who have claimed that they've witnessed a ghost. Even those of us who aren't believers in the supernatural can still get jumpy and scared just hearing those stories!

But if I were ever to be in a situation... (let's say I move into an old mansion built on property that used to be a graveyard and known for its ghosts...ironic huh?) ..I'd probably just call Ghostbusters to take a look around.

Here's a question I gotta ask: (If they were real) Do you think ghosts are bad?

In horror movies they're usually portrayed as the villian, seeking revenge and doing a lot of creeping on the family members. But then again, there must be an explanation why! Am I right? Yes, thank you very much. I think we should give these ghosts at least some time to explain themselves.

But, if you're like me, if you ever came face-to-face with a ghost, you'd probably just freak out. So that's why you need to learn and prepare now! :P

Well, I sound brave on (electronic) paper - but I don't think ghosts scare me, and I don't think they are necessarily BAD (confused maybe). But, as I posted earlier, my one visual/audio encounter with what might have been those giggling ghost children DID scare the beejeezus outta me. Maybe it was more the awful silence that followed the experience.

Anyway, in answer to your question: logically, if ghosts ARE the real, I would imagine they would be just as diverse as in life - that their true 'nature' would determine if they were good or bad.

When you hear about people (especially this time of the year) going around and visiting haunted places, such as haunted old prisons or sanitariums - I think they are either nuts or brave. Because, I reason LOL - that if the people weren't quite 'right' when alive, then death may not have improved them any and I wouldn't want to encounter their spirits.

    Not THAT brave, I ain't :P

  4. I believe they're real but there's NO way they can contact us. So basically I don't think they can even be evil towards us. I just don't believe we would ever be able to see them at all.

  5. I think that if ghosts were real, it would depend on the ghost in question (If they were bad or not)! I mean, do you really think a ghost of insane maniac serial killer is hanging around, just to play friendly? But then, if a loving and caring girl died a tragic accidental death, do you think she’s gonna go all “must have revenge on you”? No, chances are she just had some things she wanted done before she died and now she’s stuck!! So, if ghosts were real, some would be good and some would be bad. Just like with humans!!

Thanks, I love what you have to say!
